David Bowie 1976-02-02 PNE Coliseum Vancouver, BC(DVD)

Band:David Bowie
Date:February 2nd, 1976
VoIO:"Vancouver Station"
Venue:PNE Coliseum
Location:Vancouver, BC
Total Length:1:28:26

Lineage->Pro Shot > UNKNOWN > NTSC DVDR (Has A Basic Start & Track Menu)

Description:I was going thru my collection and I found this DVDR with only "David Bowie-Vancouver 1976-02-02" written on the disc. I had gotten the
disc in trade some years ago and forgotten about it or where I got it from.

Once I watched the video again, To my surprise it was Pro Shot and I quickly realized that this was the video for the Vancouver Rehearsal Audio CD that `s been circulating around for some time.

However the Video hasn`t, Plus the SQ on the video was also a Noticeable Upgrade to the Audio CD! (That's compared to the Audio version of the show
I dl from the Echoes Hub titled - David Bowie 1976-02-02 - Vancouver Station Rehearsals - SBD)

This performance has a very intimate relaxed feel to it and Bowie`s voice sounds great and is in fine form throughout. I don`t know why they filmed the rehearsal, Maybe they were working out something's like camera angles & effects for the show or for a possible future concert film.

Once the band gets into it and warms up they really start to kick out the jams. The Lead Guitarist for this Tour (The Little Known Stacey Heydon) pulls out all the stops and gives a Guitar God worthy performance at times. The Band just Rocks The Roof Off on songs like "Stay", "Panic In Detroit" and "The Jean Genie"!

The Picture is a little dark and when the camera pans back for a long shot it does lose some of it`s sharpness but the close ups are all VG. There`s also a
very slight Shadow Ghosting Effect present at times but it actually blends in well and almost looks like it was part of the video treatment.

Given The Rarity, The Set List, The Performance and SQ of the Video, I give it
a VG rating. For Fans Of The Thin White Duke this is a Great Addition for your collection!

So Share Freely, Lossless & Pass It On!
ENJOY!

 Notes:  CD 1 :
Tracks 1 - 25 Lake Charles , LA. May 4th - 1975 a/s
Track 26 Lake Charles , LA. May 4th - 1975 e/s
Tracks 27 - 33 Forth Worth , TX. June 3rd - 1976

CD 2 :
Tracks 1 - 4 Forth Worth , TX. June 3rd - 1976
Tracks 5 - 19 St-Petersburg , FL. Feb. 14th - 1977
Tracks 20-24 Charlotte , NC. Feb. 21st - 1977

CD-2 mainly focuses on Elvis in St. Petersburg , February 14 - 1977. Like the other CD releases from this period , also this one is incomplete. Disc 2 closes with tracks from Charlotte , February 21 - 1977 of which most are released before. Said to be from another source.
In between these main attractions , the end of disc 1 and the start of disc 2 will feature a total of 9 cuts from Forth Worth , June 3 - 1976.

Concert:  See comments for the Lake Charles show on "Lake Charles (Turn Around , Look At Me)" where we have an audience recording of this show.

The show in St. Petersburg offers nothing special. Pure average with Elvis just doing his routine. Vocally it was o.k. (Ciscoking)

13. Drum Solo
14. You Fool No One
15. Burn

line-up:
Glenn Hughes - vocals+bass
George Nastos - guitar
Gary Ferguson - drums
Hans Zermuehlen - keyboards

Fans of Glenn Hughes' back catalogue should like this recording. Accompanied by the soulful instrumentalists Hans Zermuehlen on the keys and George Nastos on guitar, Glenn Hughes delivers funkified versions of some Trapeze and Deep Purple classics (MK3/MK4), some Hughes/Thrall
songs and a nice cover of Stevie Wonder's Superstition. As Glenn had not played Germany for a long time in 1998, he decided to leave out his more recent solo material at the time. One could argue this decision since our funkmeister had delivered two fine albums with Feel and Addiction in the mid-ninetites.

About the recording: only one channel was recorded on the stereo mike so I copied and pasted the left channel to the right channel to give it some kind of stereo feel to it. Also, I missed out on the very first minute of the show as well as on the encores (You Fool No One and Burn) so I used my friend's Ad recording to fill in the gaps.

Hope you'll like this audio document as much as I do.

cheers,
Fedor

Fantastic afternoon with the group seeing the legendary ROLLING STONES at Jazz Fest. Taped by the INFAMOUS LIL TENDIES whose work is well renown and highly regarded. Lil Tendies was inline with the stack and pulled the heat, capturing what it sounded like today. Some mild wind, audience chatter, whatever. Sounds great, thank you LIL TENDIES! A huge thanks to Daspy for the actives - cannot thank you enough!

Dear IORR people, this sounds fine as is and there is no reason to remaster or repackaging with MS Paint Artwork, its great as is thanks.

Along with the 3rd row audio source, I filmed 99% of the show from the 3rd row, left of center.
About 15% of the time I had bobbing heads in the way, so I sought out some additional camera angles.
In some cases I was able to obtain original video files, and others I downloaded from Youtube. A couple of
brief gaps between songs were filled with slow-mo or distant footage.
Thanks to everyone who contributed! Thanks to the Dime mods for approving the lower resolution content,
along with answering some of my rookie technical questions.

COMMENT

Sabotage's release of the broadcast from P's 28th birthday concert. The broadcast is heavily edited down from the original show (which is also circulating as a complete audience recording HERE). It's very hard to distinguish between the many, many releases of this heavily booted show, however this is certainly amongst the best of the bunch. As you would expect from a broadcast video (which the audio is sourced from), the sound quality is extremely high and has been edited very smoothly. There is a nice mix of audience level throughout with P's performance being loud, clear and upfront. The show itself certainly deserves the "classic" status it has received even though this is only half the complete performance. Disc 1 contains the audio with added bonus of the appearance with Sheila E from March 1986. Disc 2 is a video CD-Rom of the Detroit show with added bonus footage from the Under The Cherry Moon Movie premiere performance. The quality of the video is certainly impressive when viewed on a PC screen, however it has since been surpassed since this was originally released back in 1998. The picture tends to be a little choppy in places and when viewed in "full screen" mode the glitches become rather evident.  The accompanying artwork contains passages lifted from Uptown along with various decent pictures from the Parade era - not Sabotage's best artwork, but nicely packaged. Overall this is certainly one of the best (if not the best) release of one of the P's best broadcasts.

David Bowie The Savage Jaw Archives Volume 4

The Savage Jaw Archives.

The official SITA project in cooperation with Ziggy In Concert and Mind-Warp PaVilion.

Towards the end of the 1990's affordable home computers, CD copiers and internet connections forever changed the way that many music collectors traded their recordings. It became so much easier to contact other collectors from around the world without having to wait weeks for replies to letters, trades to be agreed and tapes to be copied, dispatched and delivered. Contacts could be made quickly and copies could be sent out quickly too. Unfortunately, the mail was still quite slow but it was all a big improvement in the opinion of many of us.

A group of traders would hang out at Ziggy In Concert forum and from there would get to know each other, arrange trades and generally have some fun whilst waiting for the mail to arrive.
(http://zic.proboards.com/  or http://www.angelfire.com/la2/zic/  for a little stroll down memory lane)

Move the clock forward to 2004 by which time many of us had "super quick" 512kbps home "broadband" and had become familiar with BitTorrent which enabled us to get recordings sometimes in hours rather than weeks. The focus for music collectors had moved once again. We were crying out for a Torrent site which specialised in the artist whose music had brought us all together, namely David Bowie.

Goodness only knows how much work went on behind the scenes but on April 1st 2004, Savage Jaw opened it's doors, inviting everyone in to join the swarm and enjoy David Bowie "At The Atlantis". Not everybody saw this development as a good thing but the vast majority welcomed the site and the recordings with open arms. Throughout it's relatively short lifespan, Savage Jaw operated strictly to the motto "Where Quality Counts". Everything available through the site was the very best available to us. Sadly, Savage Jaw as a Bowie Torrent site closed it's doors around August 2005 but left a legacy of which those involved can be justifiably proud.

Rather than forget about this legacy a fitting tribute was put together in the form of The Savage Jaw Archives.

Dan Lampinski recorded over 100 concerts in the Providence/Boston area, mostly between 1974 and 1978.  His earliest recordings were made with an internal microphone deck, and though they are somewhat lo-fi compared to his later work, some very great moments in rock history were captured for posterity.  In late 1974 he bought a Sony TC-152SD tape recorder, a Sony ECM-99 stereo microphone, and began using Maxell cassettes.  He was also fortunate enough to have a friend who provided excellent taping seats for many shows, resulting in high quality recordings.  In 1977, he switched over to a Nakamichi 550 tape recorder, two Nakamichi CM-300 microphones, and continued using Maxell cassettes.

He recorded many of the major 70's bands:  Yes, Genesis, Pink Floyd, Queen, Blue Oyster Cult, Frank Zappa, Jethro Tull, ELP, Kiss, Black Sabbath, The Who, Al Stewart, Alice Cooper, Jeff Beck, Bruce Springsteen, Supertramp, Jean-Luc Ponty, Moody Blues, Neil Young, The Faces, Rush, Rick Wakeman, Kansas, as well as several "under the radar" acts.

Since Dan never traded copies of his recordings, they are all essentially uncirculated.  Some copies were made for friends, but these releases are the first time most of these recordings have ever seen the light of day, and are direct from his master cassettes.  No EQ'ing has been done to any of the transfers.  Feel free to EQ, matrix, patch, etc and re-post if you like, just give Dan credit for the original recording.

Dan was very meticulous about taking good care of his tapes and is very pleased that these recordings will now circulate among the trading community.  Please honour his kindness and generosity by sharing these recordings freely.
